LANDBASED ACTIVITIES
Introduction
Para-sailing: The best spot is Orient Beach, where several operators wait with their fast boats to tow you on a parachute high up into the air, where you will have a sensational view of the coast line. We will have this activity available on this site shortly. Call Kontiki Watersports at 0590 590 87.46.89 for more information. Golf: The 18 hole golf course at Mullet Bay is open to the public, even though the resort around still hasn't been rebuild since its hurricane forced closing in 1995. The course is praised by many experienced golfers as attractive, but maintenance standards are a bit unsteady. The ruins of the resort building are adding a somewhat surreal quality to the otherwise beautiful setting. The pro-shop is open (inside an otherwise abandoned building) and can be reached at 545-2801. There is a mini-golf facility in Cole Bay (Simpson Bay), close to the Paradise Casino. The bowling alley is located in Philipsburg in the A.T. Illidge Road, Madame Estates, next to a Shell station. Call 543-0203 for opening hours. If you don't plan to drive yourself, why not employing the services of one of the knowledgeable taxi drivers to show you their home island? There are several drivers specializing in this kind of personalized excursion and we will publish contact information within the next days. One of the highlights to be visited is Loterie Farm (Phone: 0590 590 878-616) in the mountainous center of the island. This private nature reserve features the only intact tropical forest system on St Martin, with two hundred year old mango trees (pick some fruits in season) and the tallest palms. There are guided hikes through the forest, showing you traces of the former sugar plantation, with fascinating historical information about the harsh live of the slaves working here before, about the herbs used during these days for medicinal purposes and much more. Loterie Farm is also home of 'The Fly Zone': Zip lines connect the huge trees and suspended above the ground, you will 'zip' with amazing speed from tree to tree. There are obstacles, such as rope bridges to be mastered. Completing the track can take up to two hours and is a real work out. Great for adults AND children above the age of 8 - 10. For the little ones, there is a special 'Little Tarzan" course prepared. Instructors are explaining procedure and equipment and are monitoring the safety of all participants. Cost is about $40 per person - we hope to have this attraction included in our online system within the next days. Especially the Fly Zone at Loterie Farm needs reservations, because many time, large cruise ship groups are occupying the course and 'walk-in' visitors can not be accommodated. PRICES SHOWN FIRST ARE AMOUNTS DUE FOR RESERVATIONS (20% OF TOTAL). THE BALANCE HAS TO BE PAID AT LOCATION. Butterfly Farm
Imagine walking through a lush tropical rain forest with exotic butterflies flying all around you in their own natural paradise. This is The Butterfly Farm, unique, breath taking, and one of St. Martins leading tourist attractions for over 10 years. Price
